On this day, 20 October 1991, F1 Legend Alain Prost finished fourth in the Japanese Grand Prix, bringing to an end the Frenchman’s tenure at Ferrari.

Nine days after this race, he was sacked by Maranello after remarks made after the race.

When interviewed recently about what he said, which to this day is still widely reported, he answered in Autosport:

“At the time no one wanted to know what things were really like.

“After a few laps the dampers were no longer working and the steering was incredibly heavy: at the end of the race, I said it was like driving a horrible truck and not nice.”
